This fall, Laura Rathe Fine Art (LRFA) is pleased to participate in Art Miami and its sister art fair, CONTEXT Art Miami. The Texas-based gallery’s upcoming presentations bring together a group of works by contemporary artists represented across both its Houston and Dallas locations to Miami, Florida between November 29 and December 4, 2022.

The booths at each event showcase mixed media paintings and sculptures by leading artists who exemplify innovative artistic expression such as Michael Laube, Zhuang Hong Yi, and Stallman Studio, among others. Both exhibitions take place during Miami’s annual Art Week, with invite-only VIP special events on November 29. The full week is set to exhibit an eclectic offering of modern and contemporary art from around the world to the city.

About the Fairs: Art Miami & CONTEXT Art Miami

Miami Art Week opens November 29, 2022, encompassing a myriad of events including Art Basel in Miami Beach, Art Miami, CONTEXT Art Miami, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) Miami, Untitled Art, Design Miami, and Scope Miami Beach. Collectors, dealers, curators, interior designers, and enthusiasts from around the world flock to South Florida to see works by highly coveted names in modern and contemporary art.

The city’s longest-running art fair, Art Miami, will commence with an invite-only VIP preview on November 29, followed by the main run of the fair which opens to the public from November 30 through December 4. Approaching its 32nd edition, Art Miami 2022 is slated to feature over 160 galleries spanning 17 countries. Visitors can see a wide range of media in modern and contemporary art, including traditional, installation, and digital formats.

The event coincides with its sister art fair, CONTEXT Art Miami, allowing visitors to enjoy both showcases together within 1 Herald Plaza, which overlooks Biscayne Bay. The 10th edition of CONTEXT Art Miami continues its commitment to push the boundaries of contemporary art, recognizing galleries and artists for their roles in innovation in today’s primary art market. Countries represented at the fair include Japan, Turkey, Australia, France, South Korea, Chile, and USA, among others.

Preview LR Projects at Art Miami - A Showcase of Contemporary Mixed Media Art

LRFA is participating in its second consecutive year at Art Miami 2022, with a solo exhibition of works by German artist Michael Laube. The gallery brings Laube’s most recent collection of multilayered acrylic installations to Miami this year via their initiative, LR Projects. Launched in 2022, LR Projects aims to champion pioneers of creative expression beyond traditional media in honor of LRFA’s long-standing emphasis on contemporary mixed media art. From transforming light and color to redefining dimensionality, its select artists have been recognized for paving new ways in leading-edge innovation in today's mixed media techniques.

LR Projects’ booth highlights its Fall 2022 Featured Artist for his distinctive exploration of modularity through a use of color influenced by the likes of Donald Judd and Barnett Newman. By combining opaque and translucent stripes of color in his painterly treatment of acrylic surfaces, Laube employs his interest in architecture to invite viewers to uniquely engage with space in each wall sculpture. For more information about Laube and his upcoming presentation at the art fair, please visit his artist page.

Preview LRFA at CONTEXT Art Miami - Pushing the Boundaries of Contemporary Art

LRFA returns to CONTEXT Art Miami for its third time with a collection of new contemporary works by Gil Bruvel, Zhuang Hong Yi, Stallman Studio, Jane Waterous, Christopher Schulz, Paul Rousso, and Robert Mars. The gallery is honored to be one of 75 featured galleries from across over 20 countries this year.

Gil Bruvel’s larger-than-life sculpture is one of many to take center stage at LRFA’s booth at CONTEXT Art Miami. Visitors can experience Bruvel’s unique approach to reimagining the human face through his freestanding pixelated sculptures and wall “masks” made entirely from burnt wood and paint.

The booth also features a selection of contemporary works by one of China’s most influential artists, Zhuang Hong Yi. Renowned for his iconic Flowerbed series made from hand-folded and painted rice paper, he mirrors the chromatic shifts seen across aerial views of tulip fields in the Netherlands, pulling in observers to interact with each piece from different viewpoints.

Stallman Studio, composed of artistic duo Jason Hallman and Stephen Stum, reflects LRFA’s ethos of representing inventive uses of mixed media as well through their pioneering technique of sculpting with canvas. Drawing inspiration from undulating patterns found in the natural world, their stylized combinations of sculpture and painting embody dynamism and fluidity as they meld together the effects of light, pigment, and structure.
