Laura Rathe Fine Art proudly presents Head Rush, a music-inspired group exhibition featuring the work of Max Steven Grossman, Paul Rousso and Nick Veasey. This Pop Art centered grouping explored themes related to mass culture and consumerism, conveyed through iconic and recognizable imagery that reminds us of different eras in our culture. By incorporating unconventional materials and artistic processes, Head Rush invited viewers to experience the overwhelming power of visual culture that continues to shape our collective identity.

Familiar imagery sparks recollections of memories for viewers allowing them to make connections through personal and pop culture. Max Steven Grossman is renowned for his large-scale photography series “Bookscapes,” in which his work responds to the impact of the digital era on both books and photography. Grossman photographs stacks of books in shops, libraries, and private collections all centered around a common subject like fashion, architecture, music, or sports. He then composes those curated photographed books into a hyperrealism shelf that's enhanced by their large scale; which can reach heights of more than eight feet. Each of Max Steven Grossman's pieces are limited to an extremely small edition of an archival pigment print on Dibond, effectively infusing the art within the glass. Max Steven Grossman’s manipulation of printed media evokes the tactile comfort of books and album covers while beckoning viewers to scan each shelf for books they know and love.

Paul Rousso’s oversized branding, like Rolling Stone, plays on the influence of advertising. His larger-than-life sculptural works that blur the line between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. Using materials like acrylic and paper, he manipulates currency, candy wrappers, and pop culture ephemera into crumpled, hyperrealistic forms that challenge perceptions of value and permanence. Rousso’s work plays with scale and nostalgia, transforming everyday objects into monumental visual statements. His art invites viewers to reflect on consumerism, beauty, and the fleeting nature of modern culture.

Nick Veasey is a British artist renowned for his innovative use of X-ray technology to create striking, translucent images that reveal the hidden structures of everyday objects. His work merges science and art, exposing the intricate inner workings of items ranging from flowers to airplanes with haunting clarity. Nick Veasey’s reimagining of pop culture imagery, including his nod to Maxwell’s ‘Blown Away Guy’, references a shared history of well-known brands in the media as he challenges our understanding of surface and depth, offering a glimpse beneath the visible world. Through his unique lens, he explores themes of transparency, truth, and the unseen beauty within the ordinary.

By engaging with these symbols, viewers are immersed in a sensory experience that transcends nostalgia, akin to the head rush of recognition or the sudden surge of emotion when hearing a familiar song. The works invite us to reflect on the symbols that shape our world—those that endure, those that fade, and those that define our ever-evolving cultural landscape.
